In Depth: Wenzi is the first RR we bought with purpose, e.g., as a potential foundation bitch. She walked out of her shipping crate at 12 weeks like the lady that she still is. Her sire was Argos, one of Brondiki’s foundation studs out of Calico Ridge the Highwayman and Brondiki Vixen. Her dam was out of Fahamu of Shadyridge and Calico Ridge Comet.
She took 2nd at the first RRCUS specialty we went to in Batavia NY in 1998 at 18 months. It took a couple years to finish her because Mary couldn’t stand the thought of sending her away with a handler, plus she was on the small side of the standard (25 ˝”, 70#) in a time when BIG was BETTER…
She only had two litters, both after 5 years old, and we finally spayed her late last year at the same time that she had a mammary tumor removed. She has a wonderful temperament, typical RR reserve and was a great mama. She and Mary are just finishing up Animal Therapy certification through Delta Society and expect to be visiting nursing homes, hospitals and schools in the future.
